Gender and Imaginative Drawing Ability
Medium
Do male and female art students differ in imaginative drawing ability? You gather 20 male and 20 female art students of the same age. Each person gets a pencil and paper with two hours to create an original cartoon character.
The drawings are numbered so the grader cannot see who drew each one. An art teacher scores every drawing based on originality and creativity.
The female students scored an average of 74% while the male students averaged 67%.
Hypothesis
The hypothesis is that female participants are better at producing drawings from their imagination.
Science Concepts Learned
Gender Differences in Cognition
Creativity and imagination represent another dimension where males and females may think in different ways. Twenty male and twenty female art students each get a pencil, paper, and two hours to create an original cartoon character. The drawings are numbered so the grader cannot see who drew each one. An art teacher then scores every drawing based on originality and creativity. The female students scored an average of 74% while the male students averaged 67%, pointing to a gender-linked difference in imaginative drawing ability.
Method & Materials
You will assemble 40 art students in a classroom, give them each a piece of drawing paper and a pencil, and ask them to draw a picture from their imagination. After two hours, the drawings will be collected and graded by an art teacher.
You will need 20 male art students, 20 female art students, 40 pieces of drawing paper, 40 pencils, and a classroom.

The results showed that female art students produced better drawings from their imagination than male art students.
Why do this project?
This science project is interesting because it explores the differences between male and female imaginations.
Also Consider
Consider repeating the experiment to compare the ability of male and female participants in using their imagination to create stories. Try to perform the experiment using different age groups to compare their imagination skills.
