Examining Gender and Memory

Easy
Examining Gender and Memory | Science Fair Projects | STEM Projects
We're testing to see if there's a difference between how well girls and boys remember things. We'll show them 25 objects for two minutes, then ask them to write down what they saw.

Hypothesis

The hypothesis is that female participants will have a better short term memory than male participants.

Method & Materials

You will arrange 25 objects in front of a classroom, bring in 20 male and 20 female participants aged 18-30, show them the objects for two minutes, then give them five minutes to write down what they saw.
You will need 20 male and 20 female participants aged 18-30, 25 objects, a stopwatch, 40 pieces of paper and pencils, a classroom with tables and chairs, a curtain, and an assistant.

Results

The results showed that female participants had a slightly higher average score in their ability to recall information from short term memory, compared to the male participants.

Why do this project?

This science project is interesting because it tests a hypothesis about gender differences in memory, and it's a fun way to learn about how our brains process information.

Also Consider

Experiment variations could include using flash cards to test the participants' ability to recall, or asking them to memorize words. The experiment could also be repeated with a younger or older group of participants.
