Video Games and Concentration

Video Games and Concentration | Science Fair Projects | STEM Projects
Are video games the key to better concentration? This science project will test 10 boys and 10 girls aged 15 years to see if playing video games for two weeks can help them concentrate better.

Hypothesis

The hypothesis is that children who spend a large number of hours playing video games will be able to concentrate better at their studies.

Method & Materials

You will prepare two sets of exam papers of equal difficulty, distribute study notes to the students, and have them play video games for two weeks. After the two weeks, the students will take the exam papers again and the results will be compared.
You will need 10 boys and 10 girls aged 15 years, two sets of exam papers of equal difficulty, a quiet examination room, 20 video games, and an assistant to help coordinate the examination.

Results

The results showed that the students’ performance in the exam did not change before and after playing video games regularly for two weeks. This observation stands out as it shows that video games may not be the key to better concentration.

Why do this project?

This science project is interesting because it tests the effects of video games on concentration in a controlled environment.

Also Consider

To improve the reliability and accuracy of the results, a larger sample of participants should be used, and perhaps the participants should be tested after a much longer amount of time of exposure to video games (eg. several months). Another alternative would be to perform IQ tests before and after long exposure to video gaming (several months).
