From Latin caelibatus , perfect passive participle of caelibare , from caelebs , unmarried
Noun
celibacy (uncountable)
- state of not being married. Sometimes confused with chastity (purity) and sexual abstinence (abstaining from sexual relations). Members of religious communities sometimes take vows to remain celibate, since the community is their family.
