food (uncountable and countable)

(literal; uncountable) Things that can be eaten, especially by human beings.
The innkeeper brought them food and drink.
(figurative; uncountable) Things intended to supply energy or nourishment of other forms.
That is food for thought.
(countable) A foodstuff .
This shop stocks many hundreds of different foods.

Although the literal definition may include liquids that are consumed with a spoon, these are referred to as drink when consumed out of a vessel that is raised to the mouth for consumption.
