, and art. It produces a snapshot of the geologic, climatic, biological, and human history at the place that they are found. When improperly managed, soil can become eroded, polluted, or destroyed. It can also cause damage to other parts of the ecosystem.

The purpose of this experiment was to determine the effect of acid on seed germination. I became interested in this idea because I know that acid rain is becoming a factor in pollution around the world. I know this from books I've studied and news articles Iíve read

The purpose of this experiment was to see how different soils affect the growth of a pinto bean. The information gained from this experiment will help produce more trees and plants faster, so they can clean the polluted air around the plant's area. Also knowing this information will help farmers produce more vegetable

The penguin population in Antarctica is diminishing. Scientific teams have already investigated predator-prey relationships, disease, and environmental pollution as possible causes. Data has been collected and analyzed. No correlation has been found between these factors and the penguins' decline. The International Symposium on Environmental Issues is meeting late next year in Sydney, Australia

Pentachlorophenol-contaminated soil was amended with a strain of Pseudomonas capable of biodegradation of the pollutant. After bioremediation was complete, soil was tested for indicators of ecological condition. Several direct-toxicity measures (plant seed germination and root elongation, earthworm survival) showed the bioremediated soil to be indistinguishable from clean reference soil.

This paper tests whether individuals engage in avoidance behavior in response to information about pollution, and whether this behavior explains the lack of epidemiological evidence of an association between ozone and health. To ascertain whether ozone affects health, I first test whether “smog alerts” lower the incidence of asthma hospitalizations in Southern California from 1989 through 1997.
