In this experiment I plan to prove that burning trash is a good alternative to landfills. Burning trash takes up less space and creates less pollution. The danger of the overfilling of landfills prompted my research. Burning trash creates less pollution and takes up less space.
First, ten grams of wood chips was weighed out. Then the wood chips were placed in a metal can. Next, the wood chips are set on fire and a stop watch was used to time how long the wood chips burned. The time was recorded on a chart. Next, the residue was observed. The color and amount was then recorded. Then the remains of the burned wood chipping was weighed and recorded on a chart. This process is then repeated for the plastic, charcoal, and newspaper.
The results of this experiment show that burning trash truly dose take up less space. I started out with 10.01 grams of wood chips. They burned for 3 minutes and 2 seconds and weighed 1.67 grams after burning. Next, I started out with 10.00 grams of tissue. The tissue burned for 4 minutes and 59 seconds and weighed 0.16 grams after burning. Then the cardboard burned for 2 minutes and 59 seconds and weighed 1.48 grams after burning. The plastic was then burned, It burned for 8 minutes and 27 seconds. The residue was impossible to be removed from the can to be weighed.
