.410 gauge
.410 gauge is a variety of shotgun shell. As the smallest of shotgun sizes, .410 gauge guns have the advantage of offering low recoil for shooters. Some competitive shooters choose the gauge because of the challenge it presents due to its smaller payload. However, the term .410 gauge is a misnomer. Gauge is defined as the number of lead balls, each of which will just fit inside the barrel, that are required to make up a pound. In the case of the .410, the number refers to the caliber of the firearm, i.e., .41 inches (10.41mm). Nevertheless, convention has determined that the term gauge be applied to such firearms.
