1956 Atlantic hurricane season
The 1956 Atlantic hurricane season was an ongoing event in the annual cycle of tropical cyclone formation. It officially started June 1, 1956, and lasted until November 30, 1956.
Most of the tropical cyclones of 1956 remained at to sea. However, Hurricane Betsy passed directly over Puerto Rico as a Category 1 on the Saffir-Simpson scale, Hurricane Flossy made landfall on the Florida Panhandle (also as a Category 1), and Greta reached Category 4 strength east of the Bahamas.
