1984 is the sixth album by American hard rock band Van Halen, released in 1984 (see 1984 in music). 1984 is Van Halen's most popular album, its last featuring David Lee Roth, and arguably the defining rock and roll release of the 1980s. It was recorded during a period that featured escalating tension between Roth and the rest of the band, which culminated in Roth's departure from Van Halen on April 1, 1985.
