AMD K8
The AMD K8 family of chips is the first implementation of the AMD64 64-bit x86 (x86-64) architecture.
- Athlon 64 FX (K8)
- Athlon 64 (K8)
- Sempron (K8)
- Opteron (K8)
The K8 Family of chips is not a large move away from the K7 Family. The most radical change is the integration of x86-64 instructions and a on-chip memory controller, eliminating the northbridge you see on k7 motherboards and Intel motherboards.
