Action of 17 July 1657
This battle took place on 17 July 1657 inside the mouth of the Dardanelles Strait. It was a victory for the forces of Venice, the Knights of Malta and the Papal States over those of the Ottoman Empire. The Turkish flagship and 2 other sailing ships ran aground and were burnt near Troy, one was sunk near Tenedos and one was captured by Principessa piccola. Of the rowing vessels, one galleass was sunk, 4 ran aground and several of these were burned about 3 days later and 1 was captured and 1 galley was captured by the Venetians either on the 17th or the 18th.
