Adrian of May
Adrian (Hadrian) of May (?-875), martyr. Probably an Irish missionary bishop, Adrian was killed with many English companions, possibly latter-day disciples of Acca, by Danes on the Isle of May in the Firth of Forth. David I, king of Scotland, built a monastery there which he gave to the Benedictine monks of Reading; later they were replaced by canons from St Andrews. The Isle of May became a notable pilgrimage centre. His feast day is March 4.
