Adventure film
Adventure film is a film genre containing elements of adventure. Contrary to popular belief, this is quite a different genre than action films. An action film is usually in a modern city setting, with a usual story of cops battling drug cartels or terrorists. These films usually receive an R rating . However, an adventure film usually takes place in the past, often with much swordfighting or swashbuckling. Popular adventure film concepts include:
- Hero and/or heroine searching for treasure
- Hero and/or heroine battling evil monarch
- Hero and/or heroine rising from nothing to seat of power.

- Raiders of the Lost Ark
- Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
- Mask of Zorro
- Hero
- Count of Monte Cristo
- The Mummy
- National Treasure
