Aeolis
(Redirected from Aeolia)
Aeolis (Aiolis) or Aeolia (Aiolia) was an area in west and northwest Asia Minor, mostly along the coast and offshore islands (particularly Lesbos), where the Aeolian Greek city-states were located. Aeolis incorporated the southern parts of Mysia and much of the coast of Lydia. In early times, their twelve most important cities were independent, and formed a league: Cyme (also called Phriconis ), Larissae , Neonteichos , Temnus , Cilla , Notium , Aegiroessa , Pitane , Aegeaeae , Myrina , Gryneia , and Smyrna (Herodotus, 1.149).
