Aeronca

Aeronca aircraft, Middletown Ohio. Made thousands of aircraft both before and after WW2, ceasing production of aircraft in the late 40's or early 50's.

The Aeronca Defender was used in training many of the pilots who flew in the war and the Chief and Champ aircraft were purchased by thousands of pilots to fly after the war. The Aeronca L3 was used during WW2 in every theater of the war and the L16 was used in Korea during that conflict.

The factory started out in Cincinati's Lunken airport in the 1930's, making the C2 and C3 airplanes. All production was there until the famous flood that covered the entire area. They then moved to Middletown, just South of Dayton, where they remain to this day.

They now make components for various aerospace companies such as Boeing, Northrup, Lockheed and Airbus as well as the space industry.

Several organizations carry on the support for the antique airplanes. The National Aeronca Association is associated with the factory. http://www.aeroncapilots.com is their site. Also the Fearless Aeronca Aviators, http://aeronca.westmont.edu/ is their home site. Also http://www.aeronca.com/ is a site run by Todd Trainor, supporting various models of the aircraft. Also there is the Aeronca Aviators Club, located at http://www.aeronca.org/
