Air Force Island
. Air Force Island is a small island in Nunavut, Canada located along the southwestern coast of Baffin Island at approximately 67°58'N 74°05'W. It measures 1720 square kilometers in size and is uninhabited.
The island was one of the most modern Canadian discoveries, spotted in 1948 by a Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) crew flying a Avro Lancaster, a flight during which neighboring Prince Charles Island and Foley Island were also found. The island was named in recognition of the RCAF’s role in surveying the Canadian arctic islands.
