Services
In 2004, its main international trunk routes are Pyongyang-Beijing, Pyongyang-Shenyang and Pyongyang-Vladivostok. The route to Khabarovsk is a seasonal route primarily for the North Korean loggers. Sometimes it also offers chartered flights to Bangkok,Macau, Moscow, Sofia,Seoul,Busan,YangYang and some Japanese cities. From 2000 it also operated flights carrying a North Korean delegation back home, from Incheon and Yangyang back to Pyongyang. During the Cold War, the airline also flew to Berlin and Prague, although those flights have since been changed into government charter flights.
Air Koryo is also North Korea's sole civil aviation entity, and is responsible for taking the country's government officials overseas. It claims to offer domestic services in addition to its international flights. Western and South Korean analysts have been unable to find evidence that such services exist.
Fleet
Air Koryo's transcontinental flights use Ilyushin Il-62 aircraft, while shorter-range flights use Tupolev Tu-154's. The airline also has a fleet of Antonov An-24 (both in V and RV forms) and Ilyushin Il-76 aircraft that are used for freight services. For special charter services it also uses vintage Ilyushin Il-18 aircraft.
