Air Namibia is the national airline of Namibia. It was founded in 1946 as South West Air Transport , which later became South West Airways . The name was then changed to Namib Air in 1978 and the government of Namibia acquired majority shareholdings in 1982 making it the national airline. It was renamed again to the current name of Air Namibia after the independence of the country in 1990. In the 1990s Boeing 747 aircraft were used for services to Europe.
