Airliners.net

Airliners.net is an aviation website founded by Johan Lundgren in 1996. It claims to be the "biggest aviation photo database on the net" and has over 780,000 photos in the database. Because of its popularity airliners.net no longer accepts all photos, but only those which are of high quality. A sister website which accepts all photos, MyAviation.net has been set up.

Other than its extensive aviation photo database, airliners.net offers aviation news, photo and aviation item purchase, aircraft information pages and a flight and hotel booking service. There is also an active aviation forum which has approximately 12,500 members. There are two types of memberships available. Premium membership, which offers a permanent username for the aviation forum but nothing else, is available for a one-time fee of US$ 25. First Class membership (US$ 5 a month, recurring) offers a username for the aviation forum and a subscription to the daily newsletter, as well as showing the website without advertisements. It also offers a "Fit Screen" view of photos on the website.

Airliners.net is hosted at Sweden's Luleå University of Technology and is maintained by Johan Lundgren. It claims to have over two million page views from 100,000 distinct users every day. Lundgren created the layout of airliners.net and in 2004 renewed the top-of-page design.

Airliners.net also has parody sites at Airwhiners.net and Eurowhiners.net as well as websites of similar design and purpose (but for different topics) at Cardatabase.net and Modified airliners photos.

One of its main competitors is JetPhotos.net, which has a similiar layout and purpose as Airliners.net.
