Alev Alatli

Alev Alatli (Turkish spelling: Alatlı), born in 1944 in Menemen, Izmir, is a Turkish writer. After gradutation from the American School in Tokyo, Japan, she was educated in economics and statistics at the Middle East Technical University in Ankara (1963). Alatlı received her Master's degree from the Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, USA in 1965, and a degree for post-master studies in philosophy from the Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire, USA in 1968.

Between 1968 and 1969, Alatlı was a lecturer of evelopement economics at the Canaan College in Canaan, Maine, USA. Returned back home, she worked at the State Planning Organization in Ankara until 1972. She then was at the University of California, Berkeley as a research assistant for psychological linguistics studies on Turkish children until 1974.

Back again in Turkey, Alatlı worked from 1981 to 1984 as the chief editor of the periodical "Bizim English" (Our English).
