Alfa Romeo Arna

The Alfa Romeo Arna was a compact three- or five-door hatchback automobile made by Alfa Romeo of Italy based around a design by Nissan of Japan. It was, essentially, a twin of the Nissan Pulsar, but featured Alfa Romeo engines carried over from the Alfasud, and Alfa drivetrain and front suspension. It had independent rear suspension from Nissan, the first Alfa Romeo to have this feature.

The Arna was not a success, despite being sold through both Alfa Romeo and Nissan dealers (through the latter as the Nissan Cherry Europe and Nissan Pulsar Milano).

Bodyshells were shipped from Japan for assembly at Pratola Serra near Naples.

It was named after the venture which spawned it, Alfa Romeo Nissan Autoveicoli.

It was eventually replaced, after three years, by lesser versions of the Alfa Romeo 33.

Engines

  • 1.2 (1186 cm³) (63 BHP)
  • 1.4 (1350 cm³) (71 or 86 BHP)
  • 1.5 (1490 cm³) (95 BHP)
