Alice Rivlin

Alice Mitchell Rivlin b. 4 March 1931 in Phaldelphia, BA Bryn Mawr 1952, MA Radciffe 1955, PhD 1958, other academic honors. Brookings Institute economist from 1957-66, 69-75, 83-93. Appointed by President Johnson during Great Society programs. Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation, United States Department of Health, Education, and Welfare 1966-68. In 1971 authored Systematic Thinking for Social Action. Held position as the first Director of the newly established Congressional Budget Office 1975-83. Appointed Deputy Director if U.S. Office of Management and Budget 1993-94 by President Clinton and later to the Federal Reserve Board of Governors 1996-99. Chairman of Financial Assistance and Management Authority 1998-2001.


Rivlin was a persistent and vociferous critic of Reaganomics as head of the CBO.
