All About Eve is a movie written and directed in 1950 by Joseph L. Mankiewicz from a story by Mary Orr . Anne Baxter plays scheming young starlet Eve Harrington, who is determined to succeed at all costs. She does so without consideration to others, including her idol Margo Channing, an aging theatre star played by Bette Davis. Marilyn Monroe is effective in a small part as a dumb blonde.

This film was the big winner of Academy Awards in 1951, winning six Oscars:

• Academy Award for Best Picture: Darryl F. Zanuck, Producer
• Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor: George Sanders
• Academy Award for Costume Design, black and white: Edith Head and Charles Le Maire
• Best Director: Joseph L. Mankiewicz
• Best Writing, Screenplay: Joseph L. Mankiewicz
• Best Sound Recording

It received a further eight nominations:

• Academy Award for Best Actress: Anne Baxter and Bette Davis
• Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress: Celeste Holm and Thelma Ritter
• Best set direction, black and white: George W. Davis , Thomas Little , Walter M. Scott , and Lyle R. Wheeler
• Academy Award for Best Cinematography, black-and-white: Milton R. Krassner
• Best film editing: Barbara McLean
• Best music scoring: Alfred Newman

The film also won many awards including, in 1997, placement on the Producers' Guild of America Hall of Fame, and has been selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry.
