Alonissos, Alonisos or Alonnisos (Greek: Αλόννησος) is an island, a village and a municipality located in the eastern part of the Sporades and the southern part of the island. It is 3 km (2 nm) E of the island of Skopelos. The village is locally known as Chora. The port of Alonissos which is located in the northeastern part near the centre of Skiathos serves the cities of Volos, Skiathos, Skopelos and Skyros. The municipality includes the other islands of Adhelfopoulo , Gioura , Kyra Panagia , Pelagos , Persitera , Piperi , Psathoura and Skantzoura The island is shaped from southwest to northeast, the length is 4.5 km from northwest to southeast and the width is 20 km from southwest to northeast. The island are mostly made up of limestone. The nearest islands are Skopelos to the west and smaller islands to the southeast and to the northeast. It is located east of mainland Greece and Magnesia, northeast of Euboea and northwest of the island of Skyros. Beaches are around Alonissos and Patitiri. Alonissos is also a bay which is in the southern part between Patitiri and Alonissos. The roads are not accessible but hat narrow lanes, stairs and staircases. Several restaurants in the area offers tables which offers a view of other islands and Skopelos. In the Medieval Times and until the 19th century, the village was known as Chiliodromia which meaned a thousand routes. Other names included Liadromia and Heliodromia. In ancient times, the place was known as Ikos Evonymos.

Alonissos has one main road which leads to three villages in the western part of the island and several unused roads throughout the island.

The geography of Skopelos includes a mountaintop to the northeest and bushy within Alonissos. Agriculture is also common, mainly mixed farming and vineyards, the main products are almonds, grapes, figs and olives. Spruce trees are also common. Fishing is also common on the island. Tourism is, however, the main industry. Housing walls remain standing while the roofs were ruined.

Houses are built next to each other are have stone walls. A small fortress protected against enemies and pirates. The island and the village was heavily damaged in the 1965 earthquake. Many inhabitants rebuilt the damages houses later but many of them were in Patitiri.

The beaches around the island consists of rough gravel. It is accessible with a moped or a boat. The ecosystem in the north side of the island are in good condition. The monachus seals Monachus-Monachus are common in the island and are protected. This seal is the rarest in Europe. In 1992, the Alonissos Marine Park was created to protect the monachus seals and other animals.

Alonissos is the smallest island in population.

Alonissos has a school, a lyceum, a church, banks, a post office, beaches, an institute of homeopathy, and a square (plateia).

The population loss was one of the most in the northern part of the Aegean.
