Alphard
Alphard (Bayer designation α Hydrae) is the brightest star in the constellation Hydra. Alphard is 100 light years distant from Earth, possesses an apparent magnitude of +1.98 (absolute magnitude -1.8) and is a orange giant star of the spectral classification K2.
The name Alphard is from the Arabic Al Fard, "the solitary one."
