Amado Guevara

Amado Guevara (born May 5, 1976 in Tegucigalpa, Honduras) is a Honduran soccer midfielder, who currently plays in Major League Soccer for the MetroStars. He is one of the best players in CONCACAF and the all-time cap leader for the Honduran national team.

Prior to signing with the MetroStars, Guevara played all over with world: in Honduras with CD Motagua, Spain with Real Valladolid, Mexico with Tigres and Zacatepec, and Costa Rica with Saprissa. Amado came back to Motagua after his spell in Costa Rica and was then signed by the MetroStars on April 11, 2003.

Guevara immediately stepped into the MetroStars team and produced. Although he finished the season with only three goals and ten assists (he added another goal in the playoffs), he became the focal point of the team; they were successful when the offense flowed through him. Guevara added four key goals and two assists in the US Open Cup, leading the Metros to the first final of any sort in the team's history.

As good as he was in 2003, Guevara was even better in 2004. Emerging as a candidate for league MVP, he is clearly head and shoulders above most players in MLS. His ten goals (six on precisely taken penalties) and ten assists do not tell the full story; the MetroStars team lives and dies with its Honduran maestro. Guevara not only tied for the league lead in scoring, he was also named MLS's MVP.

Guevara is nicknamed El Lobo. He was named the tournament MVP after leading Honduras to a surprise third place finish in Copa América 2001. He is the captain of the national team, scoring 18 goals in 90 caps.
