Amazon
The name Amazon may refer to several concepts:
- The legendary Amazons, women renowned in antiquity for their prowess in battle.
- The Amazon River, Amazon Rainforest, and Amazon Basin through which it flows. The river was so named because early Portuguese explorers reported having observed female warriors along its banks.
- Amazonas, the name of several provinces in South America named for the river, including:
- Amazon.com, the large online store that began as an online book store but which has expanded as a seller of many goods.
- Swallows and Amazons is a series of children's books by English author Arthur Ransome.
- A car model from Volvo. Perhaps as P120 in the US. See Volvo Amazon
- Amazon parrots are a group of parrots native to the New World, which are usually predominantly green.
- HMS Amazon, name of many ships of the Royal Navy
- The Game of the Amazons, an abstract board game
