American Center for International Labor Solidarity
The American Center for International Labor Solidarity (ACILS), better known as the Solidarity Center is a non-profit organization established in 1997 by the US union federation AFL-CIO to send assistance to unions and workers around the world.
Most of their funding comes from the United States government: mainly from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), the US Department of State, and the United States Department of Labor. It also receives considerable funding from the AFL-CIO itself and other organizations.
The ACILS is a successor to the American Institute for Free Labor Development, another organization supported by the AFL-CIO and the United States government.
Venezeula
In 2002 and 2003, the center provided help to the anti-government Confederación de Trabajadores de Venezuela, providing over $100,000 in funds, hosting union leader Carlos Ortega in the United States to consult with US officials. The funding for this operation was provided by the National Endowment for Democracy, which provided other anti-government forces in Venezeula in other areas with similar funding.
