Amrod

In J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth legendarium, Amrod and Amras were the youngest twin sons of Fëanor. From their mother Nerdanel their inherited red hair, instead of Fëanor's black.

Amrod's father name in Quenya is "Pityafinwë", "Little Finwë". His mother name is "Ambarussa", "Top-russet", and this refers to his hair. His younger twin Amras was also called Ambarussa, and they both answered to the name. Amras however was killed at the burning of the ships in Losgar.

Amrod became a hunter, who held the southern lands of the March of Maedhros. Amrod survived most of the War of the Jewels, but eventually fell in the Kinslaying of Sirion.

Other versions of the legendarium

In the published Silmarillion Amrod only appears together with his twin brother Amras, but in late writings which were left out of the edited Silmarillion by Christopher Tolkien the story of Amras' death at Losgar appeared. For this reason wherever both Amrod and Amras appear in the published material it should be read as Amrod alone.
