The racial makeup of the county is 93.36% White, 3.88% Black or African American, 0.32% Native American, 0.83% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.38% from other races, and 1.22% from two or more races. 1.10% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 29,780 households out of which 29.60% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.80% are married couples living together, 11.50% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.10% are non-families. 27.70% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.10% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.37 and the average family size is 2.88.
