Anna Kyoyama

Anna Kyōyama (恐山アンナ Kyōyama Anna) is a fictional character created by manga author Hiroyuki Takei. She appears in Butsu Zone, Itako no Anna , and Shaman King.

Her seiyū in Shaman King is Megumi Hayashibara. In the English anime and English video games, her last name is not revealed. In some Japanese products and in , her name is spelled Anna Kyohyama.

In Shaman King, 13-year old Anna is the fiancée of Yoh Asakura, and is an itako - a traditional Japanese shaman. Her specialty is channeling, and she can summon a spirit from anywhere, even from heaven where normal shamans can't reach. In the English anime, she is called a "spirit medium". Anna wants to become the First Lady of the Shaman World, or the Shaman Queen.

Anna was abandoned because she has the ability to see in to other people's mind without willing to. She was raised by Yoh's grandmother, Kino. Because of her great powers, Anna and Yoh's grandparents paired them up in an arranged marriage in order to keep the family bloodline going (In the English anime, Anna saved Yoh's life and Yoh promised her that she would be Queen if he was Shaman King).

Anna and Yoh met when they were ten years old in Mt. Osore (The kanji for "Mt. Osore" is the same as the kanji for Anna's family name, Kyōyama (恐山)). Yoh promises to free Anna from the curse of her powers- when he becomes Shaman King. From then on, She is constantly training him to become a better and stronger shaman, and almost never gives him any reprieve. But it is obvious that she loves him- she even said it once to friend Manta Oyamada (Mortimer "Morty") in a Shonen Jump issue. Anna attends Shinra Private Academy along with Yoh and Manta.

Anna is level-headed and a bit bossy, but definitely thinking about Yoh's best interests. She firmly believes that Yoh Asakura is destined to become the Shaman King.

In the English anime, Anna mentions that her family is royalty. In the original Japanese anime, she initially knows nothing about her parents.

In Takei's short story Funbari no Uta , the main character, Hana Asakura, is the son of Yoh and Anna.

The mascot of the Aomori prefectural police, seen here, is derived from Anna.
