Apas Jumagulov
Apas Jumagulov (Апас Джумагулов, Апас Жумагулов) (born September 19, 1934) is Kyrgyz politician. He studied geology and mineralogy in Moscow Gubkin Oil and Gas Institute and began his political career in Communist Party of the Kirghiz SSR in 1973, becoming a secretary in the Central Comittee of the Party in 1979 and President of Council of Ministers of Kirghiz SSR in 1986. Apas Jumagulov and Absamat Masaliyev were the two original candidates for Kyrgyz Presidency on October 25, 1990, but neither could get the majority of votes, so the republic's Supreme Soviet chose Askar Akayev to be the first president on October 27, 1990. Apas Jumagulov was Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan from December 14, 1993 to March 24, 1998, and Ambassador to Germany in 1998-2003.
