Archbishop Brendan O'Brien

Archbishop Brendan M. O'Brien is the archbishop of the Basilica of St. John The Baptist, in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada. Archbishop O'Brien was born on September 28, 1943 in Ottawa. He attended the University of Ottawa and St. Paul University.

Archbishop O'Brien was ordained on June 1, 1968, and in 1971 he left to study in Rome for four years. Returning to his native land in 1975, he taught at St. Paul University. He became a pastor in 1984, and was ordained a bishop on June 29, 1987. He became the Archbishop of St. John's on January 29, 2001.

He is currently president of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops .
