Armando Valladares
Armando Valladares was a political prisoner of Communist ruler, Fidel Castro, who overthrew dictator Fulgencio Batista in 1959. He was Jailed in 1960, at age 23, apperantly for refusing to accept Castro as the leader of Cuba. He was freed after his wife, Marta, won his freedom from one of Castro's prisons with the help of United States President Ronald Reagan. In 1987, President Reagan appointed Armando Valladares ambassador to the United Nations Human Rights Commission.
