Arno Funke

Arno Funke (born 1950), alias Dagobert, is a German artist and author, but is best known for his time spent as an extortionist.

Funke began his career in 1988 when he planted a small bomb in a department store and netted 500,000DM. A campaign of similar attacks continued, the biggest pay off being 1.5 million DM. Nobody was ever injured in the attacks, which made him something of a popular hero. When police released a tape of his voice in an attempt to trace him, a music group mixed it into a rap song.

He always worked alone, not even telling his wife of his crimes, but was finally caught when a phone box he used was traced.

He was jailed in 1994 for nine years and released in 2000.
