Arnold is an unincorporated community located in St. Louis County in the U.S. state of Minnesota. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 3,032. The United States Census Bureau defines Arnold as a census-designated place (CDP) and reports demographic detail.

The community is in Rice Lake Township, adjacent to the north side of Duluth and is considered to be a part of the urban area.

Geography

According to the U.S. Census, the CDP has a total area of 30.1 km² (11.6 mi²). 29.9 km² (11.6 mi²) of it is land and 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.60% water.

Demographics

As of the census² of 2000, there are 3,032 people, 1,108 households, and 850 families residing in Arnold. The population density is 101.3/km² (262.2/mi²). There are 1,123 housing units at an average density of 37.5/km² (97.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 97.86% White, 0.36% Black or African American, 0.56% Native American, 0.23% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 0.03% from other races, and 0.89% from two or more races. 0.33% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 1,108 households out of which 36.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 66.2% are married couples living together, 6.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 23.2% are non-families. 18.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.73 and the average family size is 3.11.

In the CDP the population is spread out with 27.4% under the age of 18, 6.9% from 18 to 24, 31.1% from 25 to 44, 23.8% from 45 to 64, and 10.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 101.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 104.7 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP is $46,111, and the median income for a family is $53,194. Males have a median income of $40,281 versus $28,397 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $18,104. 5.2% of the population and 5.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 3.6% of those under the age of 18 and 6.5% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
