Artemis (Sailor Moon)

Artemis is one of three feline characters of the Japanese anime series, Sailor Moon, and the second to appear in the story. He is the white-furred guardian animal to Minako Aino. He trained her to be Sailor V and then aided Luna when the Sailor Soldiers were reunited. Although a male cat, Artemis' name comes from the Greek goddess of the hunt, Artemis. Minako finds this fact amusing, much to his annoyance.

[Authoritatively speaking, Luna is based on him due to the original Sailor V manga's time of creation.]

Artemis seems more easygoing than Luna, a necessity in dealing with his unpredictable charge. His relationship to her is something of a big brother, although it has been implied he has more than passing romantic affection towards her. In the manga, Artemis has shown a similar ability to Luna, able to assume humanoid form under some unusual circumstances. In the final major story arc of the manga, it is later said the two cats simply inhabit cat-like forms, and are actually from a distant planet called Mau, which contradicts the earlier implication they were strictly magical creatures from the moon.

Although their relationship seems abrasive at times, Artemis and Luna have a child in the future (who meets them via time travel), an overeager orchid-grey kitten called Diana. Artemis' most unusual incarnation is that of a stuffed animal in the show's live action television series.

In the anime, Artemis' character is more important than his abilities, which are not heavily featured, although it would seem logical that he has powers identical to those Luna possesses.
