Artha
Artha is a Sanskrit term referring to the idea of material prosperity. In Hinduism, artha is considered to be a noble goal as long as it follows the dictates of Vedic morality. The concept includes achieving widespread fame, garnering wealth and having an elevated social standing.
Artha is the second step on the ladder of aims in Hindu life, directly above kama, sensual pleasures. Kama is considered the lowest goal because it is comprised of those things which humankind shares with the animals, while artha is concerned with man's social structure. Above artha is dharma, and the highest goal of all is moksha. Different goals are recommended depending on where a Hindu stands on his spiritual journey.
