The first of the ten United World Colleges, Atlantic College is a private boarding school for 16- to 18-year olds which aims to enable its students "to become positive agents of change through action and life choice, fulfilling individual potential and recognising individual responsibilities as global citizens".

The Atlantic College is known formally as the United World College of the Atlantic.

It was founded in 1962 by the German educationalist Kurt Hahn, founder of the Salem School [1] in Salem, Germany. It is located in St Donat's Castle, a 12th century castle in the village of Llantwit Major on the South Wales coast, overlooking the Bristol Channel.

Students from over 80 countries participate in an intense 2-year programme in which they combine academic studies with activities and service in the community. Services offered include Inshore Lifeboat, Lifeguards, an Arts Centre, an Extramural Centre, and work in the local community. The academic programme is the International Baccalaureate diploma.

Students are selected on merit for the 170 places available each year, and most receive high levels of financial support.
