AuthorIT is a Content management system used by technical writers to produce single-sourced document sets. AuthorIT is often referred to as a Help authoring tool. AuthorIT can produce documentation in the following formats:
- RTF, Adobe PDF, or Microsoft Word format for printed documentation
- Microsoft WinHelp
- Microsoft HTML Help
- Sun JavaHelp
- Oracle Help for Java
- Web and browser based help
- HTML/CSS
- XHTML/CSS
AuthorIT stores all information as topics in a database, allowing multiple authors to work in a collaborative environment.
AuthorIT can be licenced as either Desktop, Workgroup, or Enterprise editions. Further modules that can be licenced include:
- Offline Authoring
- Project Manager
- Localisation Manager
- MIF Import Filter
Third party licences that may be required are:
- Microsoft Word
- Adobe Acrobat
- JavaSoft Runtime Environment
