Back to New York Season (The Real World)

The Back to New York Season of The Real World first aired on MTV in 2001. In the tenth edition of the popular reality series, seven strangers were chosen to live in a fourth-floor loft in New York City.

The seven strangers were:

  • Mike
  • Coral
  • Malik
  • Nicole
  • Kevin
  • Lori
  • Rachel

Plot

In the first episode, while at breakfast, Coral was taken aback by Mike's antiquated views in regards to race. This exchange of ideas led to much discord between the black and white housemates throughout the season. Malik, who was of mixed ethnicity, had to choose between dating white women and a relationship with fellow houseguest Nicole, who believed he wasn't being true to the African-American side of his roots.

Lori tried very hard to get Kevin, a survivor of testicular cancer, to fall in love with her, but he really didn't see her as much more than a friend. Other events of the season included eighteen-year-old Rachel's first brush with city life, and Mike trying to understand black culture as dictated by Nicole and Coral.

Job

The seven housemates were receptionists for Arista Records during the day, and helped gain publicity for their up-and-coming bands at night.
