Bard's Tale II

The Bard's Tale II: The Destiny Knight is 1987 computer game. It is a sequel to The Bard's Tale. It used the same basic engine as the first game in the series, but was greatly expanded in scope: It added a new character class (the archmage), a wilderness in which six cities and various dungeons were located, and a much greater number of items, spells, and monsters.

There were some notable changes in the gameplay for The Bard's Tale II. For one thing, summoned monsters could be saved in the Adventurer's guild roster, thus allowing a single summoned monster to be recruited many times. In fact, multiple summoned monsters could be included in the party.

Second, combat was changed to include a concept of distance. Enemies would appear at varying ranges from 10 feet to 90 feet. Melee attacks were only possible against enemies at 10' range. However, the game did include missile weapons such as bow and arrows and spears (and magical versions of these). In addition, magic spells had range limitations.

In 1987, Bard's Tale II won the Origins Award for Best Fantasy or Science Fiction Computer Game of 1986.
