Barium meal
A barium meal is a preparation containing barium sulfate that is used in conjunction with X-rays in the medical diagnosis of the digestive system. A patient will ingest a barium meal some time before undergoing one or more X-ray procedures. Because barium is a heavy metal, X-ray images show the progress of the barium meal through the digestive system with a high contrast.
