Born in San Jose, California, Brown was 17 when he made his screen debut in Andy Warhol's 1968 film Flesh. Brown's breakthrough role was as the American Civil War draft dodger Drew Dixon in the 1972 sleeper Bad Company, in which he co-starred with Jeff Bridges.
After playing Fred Winterbourne in the 1974 film Daisy Miller, Brown slowly drifted away from show business. On June 27 1978 Brown committed suicide with a self-inflicted gun shot, in Silver Lake, California.
