Batter
Batter can have several meanings:
- In cooking, batter is a thick or thin mixture, usually made of a ground grain, a liquid, and a fat. Batters are used to make cakes, some breads, to coat meat or vegetables when frying, or to make pancakes or cookies.
- In baseball and softball, the batter is the person whose turn it is to hit the ball with the bat.
- In cricket, a batter is more commonly known as a batsman. The term batter is used mostly by Australians. A batsman is a person who hits the ball bowled by a bowler.
- As a verb, batter means to pommel, to beat up, or to inflict harm.
