Battle of Thymbra

The Battle of Thymbra was the decisive battle in the war between Croesus of Lydia and Cyrus of Persia in 546 BC. Cyrus, having pursued Croesus into Lydia following the drawn Battle of Pteria, met Croesus' army - including Egyptian and Greek contingents - in battle near Sardis and utterly defeated it. This proved decisive, and Lydia was conquered by the Persians. The battle: Cyrus defeated the Ledian cavalry because it said that the smell of the Cyrus camels frightened the Ledian horses. After the battle all the Ledian lands were annexed by the Persian empire including the Greek cities in Asia Minor, which opened the rising conflict between Greece and Persia. Croesus was treated well and in respect after the battle by Cyrus.
