Battlefield, Shropshire

Battlefield is a village 3 miles north of Shrewsbury town centre in Shropshire, England.

It was roughly here that the Battle of Shrewsbury 1403 took place. A church, Battlefield Church, was built in memory of the thousands who died.

The A49 runs through Battlefield, on its way from Shrewsbury to Whitchurch, as does the Shrewsbury to Crewe railway line. The town of Shrewsbury has recently grown substantially in this area and the village is almost part of the town. In fact, the village is now split by a Shrewsbury by pass roundabout ("Battlefield Island").

There is a pub, to the south of this roundabout - the Red Lion. The church lies to the north of the roundabout.

An industrial estate, the Battlefield Enterprise Park, has grown up in between the Shrewsbury suburbs of Harlescott and Sundorne and Battlefield. A large site of where the battle took place is however protected as a heritage site. Even so, the Battlefield Link Road (the A5124) runs straight through it and a car park has been built for visitors.
