Bayani, meaning people of the Bayan and more commonly but largely incorrectly named the Azalis are followers of the Báb after the release of the Bayan book (and his public claim to be the Mahdi in 1848). The religion is therefore closely related to the Bábís, but the numbers have greatly reduced. This is partly due to some becoming Bahá'í, and others returning to their original religions (largely Muslim).
The numbers of Bayanis can be estimated up to a few thousand and largely in Iran.
