Changeling (DC Comics)

(Redirected from Beast Boy)

Changeling (real name Garfield Logan) is a shape-shifting superhero in the DC Comics universe.

As a child he came down with a rare illness, called Sakutia and was cured by a serum from a green monkey. This serum turned his skin and hair green and gave him the ability to change into any animal, although his colouring remains green.

Originally known as Beast Boy, he was adopted by Elasti-Girl and Mento of the Doom Patrol. He later joined the West Coast team of the Teen Titans, and was part of the New Teen Titans assembled by Raven. It was at this time that he took the name Changeling. He remained with various iterations of the team, forming a close friendship with Cyborg.

He later began using the Beast Boy name again, under which he got his own mini-series Beast Boy. Following a failed attempt to recreate "Titans West" as "Titans LA", he has rejoined the main team.

He has also worked as an actor, playing the role of an alien in the TV series Space Trek 2022 (which, even in the fictional setting, was a thinly disguised pastiche of Star Trek and Space: 1999, and was cancelled following threats of legal action on the grounds of plagiarism).

Other Media

Beast Boy appears in the Teen Titans animated series, voiced by Greg Cipes.

In the series, Beast Boy (nicknamed "BB" by Cyborg) plays the role of the light-hearted jokester of the group, often the butt of many jokes himself. He's also prone to causing much of the mischief around Titans Tower, such as the time he kept a mutant larva from an encounter with Killer Moth, which he named Silkie . In "Can I Keep Him?," the larva nearly destroyed the Tower while the team was on a mission fighting Johnny Rancid. While trying to hide him from the rest others, he entrusted Silkie to Starfire to hide, but she ended up adoring the creature and declared herself a "K'norfka" (Tamaranian for "mother/father/guardian") and Silkie her "bungorf" ("child/son/daughter/dearly loved one") after another encounter with Killer Moth.

Beast Boy also had a relationship with a girl named Terra who had the abilty to control earth. Terra had a secret which was that she couldn't control her powers and shared it with Beast Boy who promised not to tell anyone.Robin quickly figured out, and she left in panic, believing that Beastboy had broken his promise. She returned to the Titans and become one. She took BB on a date to cover an attack on Titans Tower, but during the date they were attacked by Slade who had Terra reveal her alliance with him. BB's rejection after learning this led to her complete turn to evil. Terra returned to kill the Titans but at first BB belived that she could still be good but he changed his mind after she almost killed him. Beast Boy fought Terra in Slade's lair where he discovered that Terra wanted to leave Slade but was being controlled by Slade.Terra was able overcame the control with BB's help and she sacrificed herself to save the city from a volcano triggered by her powers, becoming a statue but not before telling Beast Boy that he was the best friend she ever had.

Beast Boy is not without his dark side, however, as was proven in "The Beast Within." During a fight with Adonis, Beast Boy was soaked in chemicals that further destablized his DNA so that he changed into a hulking, primal beast when under extreme stress and also changed his playful demeanor into that of an angsty hothead. The demeaning relationship that he and Raven share came to a head, and it was believed that he attacked her, but it was later revealed to be Adonis that was the culprit. Although Raven does make fun of him more than her fair share, it's mostly good natured though Raven's sarcastic nature makes it seem cutting.
